Plow United - Three (V0)

Once again, Plow United hasn’t missed a beat. The regional punk rock power trio is back this week with its fifth LP – its second since reuniting in 2011 – and it sounds fantastic. The full record is now streaming on The A.V. Club, and it packs in 14 new songs into just about a half hour’s time.
A couple weeks back, singer-guitarist Brian McGee appeared on The Key Studio Sessions to preview a few of the new songs: “We Should Take Time,” “Break The Barrier” and “Trust.” Contrasting the troubadour-esque acoustic renditions of the songs against the pummeling freakouts that are the album versions is definitely a trip – its sick to hear that, even after twenty years, the Plow boys have that gripping ability to not chill, as the situation may call for.
Three, produced by Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls, is out tomorrow on It’s Alive Records, and the band plays a few reunion shows this weekend. On Friday, they play The Acheron in Brooklyn before hitting a sold-out show Saturday at PhilaMOCA. Regional fans who don’t mind a drive, though, can skip down to Wilmington on Sunday, where tickets are still available for their afternoon show at 1984 with The Headies, Satellite Go and Barclay Burns. House Of Commons - Guilty As Hell (1983-1993

 Razorcake sez:
Welly from Artcore unearthed this slice of Canadian punk history. House Of Commons came out of British Columbia in 1980 and recorded in one form or another right up to around 1993. Obvious DOA influence in their sound, but they have a definite U.K. influence as well: mid tempo punk where the songs are allowed to build and hold your attention. This disc collects their Patriot LP from 1983, and demos from 1985 to 1993. Must admit, their later stuff is just as good as the earlier. Not a common feat! You can score this with Artcore #26. –Marcus Solomon

More Pop than punk, Pop Punk This album puts the Pop in Pop punk to the extreme. The album has slightly bratty vocals and 4 songs with lyrics about liking girls, girls, girls, & girls. Each song has its own little tribute to a different girl and how they stole their hearts. I enjoy that each of these songs is similar in style, but different enough in melody, hooks, and tempo to make each song stand out on its own. My only complaint about this album is (more of a personal complaint) that I've heard three of the four songs on this 7" previously. Ok so maybe those three songs were leaked to me a few months ago, but still I would have loved to hear some new songs from these Poppy Canadian Crooners I just really enjoy their music.
